A revelation about a transfer involving Aston Villa has surfaced after Unai Emery made a candid admission regarding a former Arsenal player.
During both the summer and winter transfer windows, Unai Emery disclosed that Aston Villa repeatedly urged defender Calum Chambers to depart the club. Despite direct requests from the Villans’ head coach for Chambers to leave for the benefit of both the club and the player, he declined to do so. With Chambers seeing minimal playing time this season and maintaining a high wage, a transfer away would seemingly be beneficial for all involved. However, Chambers doesn’t share this perspective.
“On Saturday, when questioned about Chambers’ transfer situation, Emery remarked, ‘In the summer, I said let him leave. In the winter, I said let him leave. But he decided to stay here.’ Despite this, Emery appeared to be impressed by Chambers’ determination to excel at Villa, stating, ‘He’s a very good man. I respect him a lot. I am including him in everything and today I am very happy for him.'”
Chambers entered the match for the second half while Aston Villa held a 3-1 lead against Nottingham Forest. However, he, along with Matty Cash, was deemed responsible as Morgan Gibbs-White easily breached the defense to score, narrowing the lead to 3-2. The substitution was necessitated by an injury worry for Pau Torres, who felt discomfort in the back of his leg.
Ultimately, Chambers regained composure and contributed to Villa securing a significant three points, aided by Leon Bailey widening the lead to 4-2. Douglas Luiz found the net twice during the match, with Ollie Watkins also adding his 14th Premier League goal of the season. With this victory, Villa now sits five points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur and eight points ahead of Manchester United in the league standings.
