Hall arrived at Newcastle on a season-long loan from Chelsea, with an obligation to buy for £28 million based on performance-related conditions. Initially, the left-back was nearing joining Crystal Palace on loan before Newcastle intervened.

Although the performance-related conditions haven’t been met yet, head coach Eddie Howe stated, “He’s making progress [towards fulfilling the clause] with each game. While I’m not monitoring it closely on a daily basis, I’m confident he’s nearing that point.”

The 19-year-old has had limited opportunities at Newcastle since the beginning of his loan spell, making just one Premier League start and playing more than 45 minutes only once, during the 3-0 victory against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup, where he also scored. Despite being named on the bench for Newcastle’s last five matches, Hall hasn’t seen any game time.

When questioned about whether Newcastle can justify spending nearly £30 million on a player who isn’t currently a regular starter, Howe responded, “He is close to breaking into the first team. In the broader context, every transfer decision we make is crucial. We don’t have unlimited funds, and financial fair play regulations will constrain us not only now but in the future. Therefore, we must ensure that every signing we make is well-considered. Mistakes are inevitable in the transfer market. So, I’m not specifically referring to Lewis here; rather, I’m addressing the importance of every transfer we make.”
