B team centre-forward Kieran Phillips is set for more weeks out, but that just means there is no chance he will go out on loan and will get a chance to impress the manager
Striker Kieran Phillips has suffered another injury just as he was coming back from a seven-month layoff with a hamstring problem – but manager Neil Warnock believes it could end up being a blessing in disguise.
The centre-forward had been enjoying a productive season in front of goal on loan with then-League One side Morecambe last season, despite the club’s ultimately unsuccessful fight against relegation.
But Huddersfield Town were forced to recall Phillips after he suffered a season-ending hamstring tear in January, and he was forced off injured again upon making his goalscoring return for the B team on Tuesday.
Warnock hinted that the club may have considered sending Phillips back out on loan in other circumstances, and while his injury means that will not now happen, a more positive prognosis than first feared means he should get the chance to show the gaffer what he can do upon his return.
In response to Neil Warnock’s ‘level’ assertion, Lee Nicholls brings redemption for Huddersfield Town.
At his press conference on Thursday, the manager stated: “Just before I walked in, I had some excellent news. We believed Kieran’s injury to be severe when it occurred. We anticipated that he might be sidelined for a few months, but [club doctor] Ian Kirkpatrick just informed me that the scan revealed that his condition may only require a few weeks of recovery time.
“He’s a poor young man. We’re a little short of strikers, so let me see what you can do, I did remark to him. We’ll just have to wait and see. Obviously, if he’s hurt, he won’t be able to play, so he’ll have a few months to really show me what he’s capable of.
