“Birmingham City’s competitors in the Championship have revealed an unexpected appointment for their new head coach.”
Huddersfield Town, Birmingham City’s rivals, have introduced André Breitenreiter as their new head coach, succeeding Darren Moore, who was recently dismissed. Moore, a former Jamaica international, assumed the helm of the Terriers in September but was let go after a mere four months in charge.
During Moore’s tenure, Huddersfield managed just three wins, prompting the club to take urgent measures to evade relegation by appointing Breitenreiter. Positioned 20th in the table with 34 points, they cling to a five-point cushion above the dreaded drop zone.
Breitenreiter’s appointment marks his debut position in England, and he is set to officially commence his role with Huddersfield on Monday, pending completion of his visa application. His inaugural match at the helm will be an away fixture against Watford on February 24th.
Bringing a wealth of success from his stints in Germany and Switzerland, the 50-year-old André Breitenreiter arrives at Huddersfield with an impressive track record. Notably, he clinched the DFB-Pokal with Hannover 96, steered Paderborn to their first-ever Bundesliga promotion, and most recently secured the Swiss Super League title in 2022 with Zürich.
Before his venture into the Championship, Breitenreiter reportedly attracted interest from clubs in Germany, Turkey, and even a national team. Terriers owner and chairman Kevin Nagle expresses his elation over the appointment, signaling high hopes for the club’s future under Breitenreiter’s leadership.
