Steve Borthwick asserts that England’s newcomer, Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, is prepared for whatever challenges his native Wales may present in Saturday’s Six Nations clash at Twickenham.
Cardiff-born Feyi-Waboso has chosen to represent England ahead of Wales, in a move that has gone down badly in some parts of his birth nation.
Warren Gatland, the Wales boss, remarked that other coaches in the country had expressed disappointment over the 21-year-old’s choice to represent England.
Feyi-Waboso departed Cardiff after facing difficulty in securing a place to study medicine at the city’s university. He then joined Wasps’ academy while pursuing his studies at Aston University. Subsequently, administrative changes at Wasps led to his relocation to Exeter, where he continued his rugby journey with the Chiefs alongside his degree program at Exeter University.
Red Rose boss Borthwick has praised Feyi-Waboso’s dedication to England following his debut appearance off the bench in the 27-24 victory over Italy in Rome last weekend.
Borthwick emphasized that there was no temptation to shield Feyi-Waboso from any external pressure this weekend, despite the circumstances, as the highly rated wing once again found himself on the bench.
When asked if he had contemplated removing him from the spotlight, Borthwick responded, “Not from my perspective.”
“He came on last week and performed admirably. He has displayed remarkable composure, maturity, and calmness. He’s been training exceptionally well, and from what I’ve observed in the short time I’ve known him, he doesn’t seem to be easily rattled.”
“I have nothing but praise for him.”
Borthwick has elevated Feyi-Waboso above other more seasoned players and remains convinced that the emerging talent has the capabilities to excel in the Test arena.
