Following the unexpected retirement of legendary Alabama head coach Nick Saban, the college football landscape experienced a seismic shift. Saban’s departure prompted a 30-day window for current Alabama players to consider transferring to continue their college careers elsewhere. Among those players was true freshman quarterback Julian Sayin, the younger brother of Penn’s star quarterback Aidan Sayin.
Julian Sayin, initially committed to Alabama as the No. 1 quarterback and the fifth-ranked player overall in the 2024 class, decided to enter the transfer portal after Saban’s retirement. Despite his relatively quiet recruitment, Sayin stuck with his commitment to the Crimson Tide, even participating in practices for the Rose Bowl. However, with Saban no longer at the helm, Sayin felt it was in his best interest to explore other options.
While Penn fans hoped Sayin would join his brother at the University of Pennsylvania, he ultimately committed to Ohio State, reuniting with former Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien. Sayin expressed his excitement about joining the Buckeyes, praising the program’s talented players and coaches. Despite the competitive QB room in Columbus, with the addition of transfer quarterback Will Howard and fellow 2024 five-star prospect Air Noland, Sayin is eager to compete and contribute to the team’s success.
Although there were no assurances of immediate playing time, Sayin is determined to compete and develop within Ohio State’s program, known for producing NFL draft-worthy quarterbacks. His high school coach, Thadd MacNeal, emphasized Sayin’s readiness to face the challenges ahead and compete for a prominent role on the team.
