Oxford United overpowered Wrexham and Bristol Rovers for League One striker

Wrexham is reportedly eyeing Jack Marriott, who is currently free to leave Fleetwood Town, to bolster their attacking lineup. Despite having a formidable goal-scoring record in League Two this season, Wrexham continues to be linked with strikers during the January transfer window. Previously, League One players Jonson Clarke Harris, Stephen Humphrys, and Aaron Collins were of interest. However, the latest target for Wrexham appears to be Jack Marriott.

Football Insider suggests that Marriott, now at Fleetwood Town, is on Wrexham’s radar alongside other attacking options like Paul Mullin, Steven Fletcher, and Ollie Palmer. The 29-year-old forward, who joined Fleetwood Town in January 2023, has scored five League One goals in 24 appearances this season. Despite having 18 months left on his contract, Fleetwood is reportedly willing to let Marriott leave due to financial considerations, and several League One clubs, including Stevenage and Oxford United, have shown interest.

Recent developments indicate that Carlisle United and Bristol Rovers are now interested in securing Marriott on loan for the remainder of the 2023–24 season. Bolton had previously attempted to sign Aaron Collins for £600,000, but the bid was rejected, and they could now consider Marriott as an alternative.

Fleetwood Town’s decision to part ways with Marriott is driven by financial considerations, including his high wages and the recent addition of Ronan Coughlan to the squad. Despite Marriott’s reasonable performance this season, sitting on the bench for two out of the last three matches suggests a potential exit.

If Wrexham successfully secures Marriott, it would significantly strengthen their attacking options in League Two. The addition of Marriott could potentially be a game-changer for Wrexham, providing a considerable boost to their goal-scoring capabilities at the fourth-tier level.
