Ipswich Town is reportedly aiming to secure the signing of AFC Wimbledon striker Ali Al-Hamadi before the upcoming transfer window closes. The 21-year-old, who is currently representing Iraq at the AFC Asian Cup, has been a prolific scorer for Wimbledon, netting 27 goals in 40 starts and eight substitute appearances since joining in January 2023.
Al-Hamadi, born in Iraq but raised in Liverpool, started his youth career with Tranmere and Swansea before joining Wycombe Wanderers in 2021. After impressing during a loan spell at Bromley in the National League, he became a regular for Wycombe in League One. In January 2023, he made a move to Wimbledon in League Two.
Despite December rumors linking him to Peterborough in a £1.5 million move, the striker’s potential transfer to Ipswich Town is now in focus. However, with Al-Hamadi’s commitment to the AFC Asian Cup, any deal may see him unavailable for Ipswich until early February, depending on Iraq’s progress in the competition.
Ipswich Town is actively seeking attacking reinforcements due to the recall of Dane Scarlett by Tottenham Hotspur and George Hirst’s absence following hamstring surgery. While Jay Stansfield is set to stay on loan at Birmingham and there is no progress on the move for Sam Gallagher, former Ipswich striker Kieffer Moore is reportedly expected to stay at AFC Bournemouth.
