Morecambe sign forgotten Winger until end of season

Brandon Barker, the once-overlooked former Reading winger, has made a move to League Two side Morecambe, committing until the end of the season. Now 27 years old, Barker, a former Manchester City prospect, made four appearances for the Royals in 2022 during a brief three-month stint. Despite having showcased his talent as a former England Under-20 international, Barker’s career trajectory has seen him play for various clubs, including Rotherham United, Hibernian, and Rangers. Unfortunately, his career has yet to fulfill the early promise he showed.

Having scored once in 17 appearances for Cypriot team Omonia, the winger has now joined Morecambe for the remaining 20 League Two matches. Expressing his excitement, he stated, “I’m absolutely delighted; I can’t wait to get going and hopefully I can really help the team.” Acknowledging the Shrimps’ strong performance this year with a few games in hand and close proximity to the play-offs, he aims to contribute his experience to assist the team in climbing the table.

In recent developments, Cesare Casadei, a former loanee from Reading, has been called back from his temporary spell with Championship leaders Leicester City to rejoin Chelsea. The Italy Under-21 international, who previously scored one goal in 15 appearances for Reading last season, has notably contributed 25 appearances for the Foxes in the first half of the current campaign.
