The nation’s top-ranked overall prospect and five-star quarterback prospect out of Belleville, Michigan, Bryce Underwood, officially became unstoppable over the weekend when he made his commitment to LSU early on Saturday night. Underwood ranked Colorado, Penn State, Oregon, Florida State, and Alabama among his top seven, but he also gave Michigan and Alabama serious consideration.
Underwood guided Belleville to its third consecutive state championship game appearance as a junior. He added seven more touchdowns on the ground in addition to throwing for 3,165 yards and 40 touchdowns against only two interceptions.
Joe Sloan, the quarterbacks coach, made three trips to Baton Rouge in order to recruit Underwood in 2023.
Although Underwood made a few late trips to Michigan, including the victory over Ohio State 30–24, the Tigers maintained their lead for the majority of the previous year.
Underwood has committed to play with Tavien St. Clair of Bellefontaine (Ohio) High, the No. 12 prospect overall and the top signal-caller in the country who verbally committed to Ohio State back in June. In addition to scoring four more points with his legs, St. Clair completed almost 70% of his passes for 3,083 yards and 37 touchdowns during his outstanding junior campaign.
The Buckeyes would have also been finalists for Underwood had St. Clair not committed so quickly, especially after hosting him early in the season and making an impression with CJ Stroud’s development, among other things. Ryan Montgomery, the quarterback for Findlay (Ohio) High Top247, is another player Ohio State could have been a finalist for. (Adj.: More on Montgomery.)
The dominoes fall in that order, and with this 2025 bunch, they are falling swiftly.
