MLS team reaction to West Brom’s January development in last 24 hours..

MLS side Orlando City have reacted to the news that Daryl Dike is set to return to the starting line-up at West Brom in the FA Cup clash against Aldershot Town.

Orlando City was Dike’s first professional club, from which he moved to England when he joined Barnsley on loan before his permanent move to The Hawthorns in 2022.

They have always been vocal in their ongoing support for the striker, and the news that he is set to return from his long-term absence with an achilles tendon injury will have excited fans in the U.S.A.

Replying to the announcement by West Brom that Dike would be starting, the official Orlando City Twitter account simply posted three eye emojis, implying that they will be watching and sharing the news with their fans who still track the striker’s progress.

 

A long-awaited return

Having suffered an injury to his achilles in the Championship clash with Stoke City on 15 April, Dike’s return has been eagerly anticipated, and now nine months later he is finally set to make his return to The Hawthorns,

It will be important for Albion fans, and those from the U.S., not to expect an immediate return to his best. Injuries of this magnitude and a return after such a long time out can be difficult, but their support and delight at seeing him return will surely be felt.

Returns from an injury of this magnitude have had mixed success. Key examples of players who have returned strongly include Crystal Palace’s Ebere Eze and AC Milan’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek, but Nottingham Forest winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has never quite looked the same.

Patience will be required, and an introduction back into the first-team fold is just another step in his recovery rather than being an immediate return to his former self, but there is plenty of hope that he will soon be back to his best.
