Exclusive: Two clubs in talks to sign Aston Villa star who’s fallen foul of Emery

AC Milan and Inter Milan are both in talks with Aston Villa over signing Jhon Duran this month, sources have told Football Insider.

Milan are favourites ahead of city rivals Inter to land the £17million striker – who only joined Villa 12 months ago.

The Rossoneri have gone in stronger as they look to sign Duran on what would most likely be a loan for the second half of the 2023-24 campaign.

But Inter also have an interest in the forward, who has struggled for game time this season and has fallen foul of manager Unai Emery.

Football Insider revealed on Sunday (12 November) that Duran is a “handful” for Emery and his staff behind the scenes at Aston Villa.

It is believed the Colombia international’s attitude has been questioned by the manager on multiple occasions at the club’s Bodymoor Heath training ground.

The 20-year-old was told to make major improvements to fit in with the Spaniard’s no-nonsense demands.

Duran has since returned to the fold at Villa after a brief hiatus and has scored four goals across 21 appearances in total this season.

He is yet to start in the Premier League and has been named in the starting eleven just six times this term – with Ollie Watkins the clear first choice for Emery.

Villa are keen to add a new striker to their ranks this month to make the most of their stunning first half of the 2023-24 season.

Football Insider revealed on 24 December that the Midlands giants believe forward target Kelechi Iheanacho could be prised from promotion-chasing Leicester City for around £5-10million.

Emery’s side sit second in the Premier League after 20 games and ahead of their next top-flight clash with Everton on 14 January.

In other news, Aston Villa to terminate 19-year-old’s deal – he’s set for January move.
