SAINTS boss Russell Martin believes Norwich City defender Jack Stacey should have been sent off for a foul that injured Sam Edozie.
Saints extended their unbeaten run to 18 games with a 1-1 draw at Carrow Road against Norwich in the Championship.
Edozie was pulled off after only 27 minutes of play after attempting to continue after a studs-up challenge from Stacey.
Darren England, the referee, booked the former AFC Bournemouth and Luton Town player.
Martin’s team appeared to be on course for three points when Adam Armstrong converted from close range, but Norwich substitute Josh Sargent finished a superb move to equalize.
Martin insisted after the game, “It’s a red card, and we should have a penalty on Ryan Fraser as well.”
“It was one of the easiest games to referee, and he made it difficult.” I don’t have anything against referees, but this is a truly wicked task.
“Refereeing is one of the most difficult jobs in the world, but I’m not sure.” It’s the same with Ryan Manning, who is also fouled late.”
“It was in the box, but it’s a foul anywhere else on the field,” he continued. I am not a fan of chasing the referee for an answer because it is tough for him to see late.
“It is a red card with VAR but it is really easy to say that – although, you don’t know with VAR do you?”
When asked about Edozie’s condition, who had scored three goals in his previous five games prior to the visit to Carrow Road, Martin admitted he didn’t know.
“His ankle has ballooned up,” Martin explained, “but I can’t give you an estimate because it would be a complete guess.” We now have a couple of days off.
“It has been relentless so I am looking forward to seeing my kids before they go back to school and the lads will have a couple of days off to relax.”
