According to Football Insider, Aston Villa are ready to recall Lamare Bogarde from his loan at Bristol Rovers and sign a new contract with a Championship team.
It is believed that it was always the Villans’ intention to end Bogarde’s loan spell at the League One club this month before linking him with a new club in the second tier for the remainder of the season.
The 19-year-old has made 18 appearances in all competitions this season, although he has not seen meaningful game time since Joey Barton was sacked as Rovers manager by Matt Taylor last month.
Taylor attempted to sign the central midfielder when he was in charge of Rotherham, but both Villa and Bogarde turned down the offer.
Despite this, Bogarde has not played for Rovers since Taylor’s appointment.
However, the highly-rated kid is anticipated to move to the Championship to test himself at a higher level.
The 2004-born Dutchman joined Villa from Feyenoord’s youth and rose to attention after making his senior debut against Liverpool in the FA Cup in January 2021.
He had a loan spell at Bristol Rovers in the second half of the season, where he started 15 of 18 games.
According to Football Insider (1 January), defender Kerr Smith has signed to a new two-year contract with Villa before joining St Johnstone on loan.
Aston Villa are second in the Premier League table after a 3-2 win over Burnley on Saturday (30 December) and will play Middlesbrough in the FA Cup next.
