Following Birmingham City’s New Year’s Day loss to Leeds United, Wayne Rooney was fired by the team.
After being sixth when Rooney took over in October, the club’s place in the Championship table was down to 20th after the defeat.
Rooney played in 15 Midlands matches, winning just two of them overall, and he was not well-liked by the locals.
Unexpectedly, John Eustace was fired in October after leading the team to play-off positions in the first few months of the campaign.
Supporters were not happy with the choice, and Rooney needed to win them over quickly.
But as the team plummeted to 20th in the league standings, Rooney was barely able to hold onto his job with just two victories in his 15 games as manager. As a result, the board took action.

In their last two games, the Blues had only managed one shot on goal, and after losing to Leeds on Monday, fans began to turn against Rooney.
This is true even though Rooney was chosen to bring about a new era in the Midlands, as chairman Garry Cook declared the Liverpudlian would play football with “no fear.”
Neil Warnock, Lee Carsley, and Gary Rowett are reportedly in the running to replace Rooney at St Andrew’s.
