“I’d be staggered” – Journalist reacts as Everton push move for Fulham star with 16 PL apps this season – Report

Everton want to sign Fulham ace Harrison Reed in the January transfer window, according to The Mail on Sunday.

The newspaper reported on page 84 of its print edition on 31 December that the Toffees are also eyeing Leicester City winger Kasey McAteer, but that there is only a “slim chance” that could happen in the upcoming window.

It added that the budget means loans are more likely for the Blues, with a centre-back and a new left-back on Sean Dyche’s wishlist, while Ben Godfrey, Andre Gomes and Amadou Onana are the most likely candidates to leave Goodison Park.

Quiet

It’s likely to be a reasonably quiet transfer window for Everton due to the club’s well-documented financial issues off the pitch.

That means Dyche is probably going to have to work hard to secure a couple of players on loan to bulk up his squad and strengthen in a couple of areas where he feels they may be light.

The 28-year-old Reed could prove to be an option after he’s been a bit-part player for Fulham over the past few weeks, with the midfielder recording more than 100 Premier League appearances to his name, including 16 this season.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the odd fringe player leave, but the Toffees will surely do all they can to fend off any interest in Belgian midfielder Onana.

Everton

There could also be interest in Jarrad Branthwaite after several clubs are believed to have been monitoring his progress over the past few months, having impressed since breaking into the first-team picture.

The priority should still be on getting some players through the door, though, as you never know what could happen in the second half of the season as the Blues look to steer themselves away from danger again.
