We are pleased to welcome Dr. Daniel Plumley, an expert in football finance, as our special West Ham United contributor. He will share his opinions on the most talked-about topics at the London Stadium once a week.
Dan Plumley has insisted that it has been a “phenomenal” few years for West Ham United in Europe as they continue to rake in the new windfall.
The Irons have won £6.8 million thus far from their Europa League group after winning the Conference League the previous season.
The finance expert acknowledged that winning in Europe offers fresh sponsorship and marketing options along with a healthy pot of reward money.
“Phenomenal few years in Europe,” he exclusively told West Ham Zone.
We know that the Conference League and Europa League are not as financially supported as the Champions League, but to advance to the later stages of either competition, there is a respectable pot of prize money. “Look at the initial run in the Europa League, then winning the Conference League, and now again in the Europa League and the prize money that generates.”
“Obviously, West Ham’s trophy win creates additional commercial and sponsorship opportunities, and the fans have celebrated their return to Europe and their trophy win.”
“Everything there turns into a plus, and if you can maintain that, they’ve had a strong season thus far leading into the knockout stages, which again results in increased prize money and more chances for specific game-related marketing.
“West Ham has just had a great run in Europe over the past few years, which has allowed them to continue.”
In unrelated West Ham United news, our expert responded to the club’s £650 million announcement.
