AC Milan face roadblock from Aston Villa in January pursuit of Barcelona defender

Barcelona’s priority heading into the 2023 summer transfer window was to offload as many players that were surplus to requirements, albeit on loan, to make way for reinforcements in the side.

While the likes of Ansu Fati, Ez Abde, and Franck Kessie brought in some revenue, most players either left on a free transfer or on loan.

One of them was Clement Lenglet, who was returning from a dry loan spell at Tottenham Hotspur. The London outfit decided against pursuing him permanently, and the Frenchman ended up joining Aston Villa on a season-long loan.

Unai Emery is evidently not the biggest fan of the player, though. He is yet to receive any minutes in the Premier League, and his only appearances so far this season have come in the UEFA Conference League.

During a time like this, AC Milan have come calling for Lenglet’s services in the hopes of fixing an injury crisis in defence. They want to sign him on loan, and have relayed their desire to Barcelona, as well.

Recent reports, from Gazzetta, say that Milan face a roadblock in their pursuit of the Barcelona centre-back. It seems Villa are not the biggest fans of this idea, and want Lenglet to continue in Birmingham for the rest of the season.

There is hope
The report also states that this obstacle could be overcome, though, with Milan pushing for a move. Lenglet’s camp have already held talks with Villa, and confirmed their intention to either get a more important role in the team or leave in January.

Milan are also looking for a move for Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior, but Arsenal are unwilling to let the Polish centre-half leave on loan. Their stance is unwavering, which means the Rossoneri might have to find a solution with Aston Villa for Lenglet.
