Portsmouth CEO reveals club’s contract stance as 17 players enter final months of exisiting deals..

Pompey have 17 players out of contract at the end of the 2023-24 season – a figure that includes their three loanees

The League One leaders presently have 17 players on their books who are nearing the end of their Fratton Park contracts. Joe Morrell, Sean Raggett, Marlon Pack, Joe Rafferty, Connor Ogilvie, Za Swanson, Denver Hume, and Ryan Schofield are among the eight first-team players on permanent contracts, as are three loanees: Alex Robertson, Tino Anjorin, and Abu Kamara.

Josh Martin’s short-term contract expires next month. Meanwhile, decisions on teenagers Haji Mnoga, Liam Vincent, Toby Steward, Harry Jewitt-White, and Josh Oluwayemi, who are now receiving senior experience away from Fratton Park, will have to be made.

Pompey’s main focus, of course, remains on maintaining their promotion push and keeping their commanding lead at the top of the table as the season enters its second half. Where the Blues end up at the end of the season will undoubtedly have a big impact on the decisions that have to be made for individuals who are in the final six months or less of their PO4 tenure.

And it looks Pompey will hold off on starting any negotiations until they know what division they will be functioning in in 2024-25.

Cullen said, ‘I think we have eight players out of contract next season,’ when asked if the club was in contract talks with those players reaching the end of their contracts. We obviously have three loans at the moment who would return, but we do have options on some of those players, and I believe there is a good time to start looking at this process, and what you don’t want to do is be out of sync with different people.

‘There will be a right time to do it, and those contract negotiations will begin when the time is appropriate.’

The Blues have options on current first-teamers Joe Morrell and Zak Swanson, as well as Denver Hume, according to The News.
