According to reports, Newcastle United plans to make an unexpected bid in the upcoming January transfer window to acquire Andreas Christensen of Barcelona.
According to reporter Javier Parra Pena (via TeamTalk), Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is reportedly searching for a new center-back during the next transfer window.
According to the article, Christensen of Barcelona and Goncalo Inacio of Sporting Lisbon are two names that are reportedly being considered.
In their search for a new center defender, Newcastle has given Christensen some thought. Christensen left Chelsea in 2022 to join Barcelona.
Since joining Barcelona, the Danish international has made 50 appearances and has contributed two assists and a goal.
Newcastle’s season has been marred by injuries, making it difficult for them to return to their prior level of play.
They are now 7th in the table, 1 point ahead of Manchester United and 5 behind Manchester City, who are out of Europe.
To aim for a top-4 finish, Howe has determined that the defense and midfield need to be reinforced in January.
