Greens have got their eye on Chesterfield Man…

Chesterfield, the top team in the National League, is hoping that manager Paul Cook, who is apparently being considered for the open position at Plymouth Argyle, won’t be their Christmas worry.

In his second stint with the Spireites, Cook has proven to be a big success. The team is currently leading the table and pushing hard to return to the Football League.

Chesterfield is gearing ready to take on Watford in the FA Cup’s third round next month, but first they must fight to retain the 56-year-old Liverpudlian boss, who has experience managing in the EFL as the manager of Portsmouth, Ipswich Town, and Wigan Athletic. Following Steven Schumacher’s departure earlier this week to take up as manager of Championship rivals Stoke City, Plymouth is searching for a new manager.

Cook was a 5/2 favorite to win the position on Friday, according to bookmakers Parimatch, with former Brighton and Sunderland manager Gus Poyet and Everton U18 head coach Leighton Baines also in the running.
