£80m star is delaying his desire to join Chelsea because of the high signing-on fee..

Chelsea striking a deal to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford next month could become quite tricky.

If Chelsea want to bring Ivan Toney to Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window, according to journalist Simon Phillips, they will have to pay a large signing fee.

And Phillips claimed on his substack that the above is one of the things that is putting the club off. “I’m told,” he said before explaining that the Blues are reluctant to offer the kind of money Toney’s camp is demanding.

Brentford are also going to want a huge fee to part ways with their striker next month.

The Independent recently claimed that it could take £80 million to get Toney out of the Gtech Community Stadium.

Chelsea not fully convinced by Ivan Toney

While Chelsea certainly do look to have an interest in Toney, it is quite clear that there are some doubts and the club is not prepared to go all out for him.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Chelsea’s recruitment team is actually divided on whether to make a move for the 27-year-old or not.

To be honest, Mauricio Pochettino needs a new striker for the second half of the season and beyond, so if the Blues can’t sign Victor Osimhen—who is still rumored to be heading to Stamford Bridge—they should bring in Toney.

The England international scored 20 goals in 33 Premier League games last month, demonstrating his ability to score goals in the league.

You begin to believe that Toney might be well worth the money when you consider what he could accomplish on a team with players of higher caliber.

Chelsea, though, appears to have a cap on this and is ready to draw a boundary. That they will go all out for the Brentford star doesn’t seem likely.

And if Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku can hit top form for Chelsea, then they may not need to.
