Dan Ashworth’s message on his Newcastle future before Man Utd rumours ramped up

I don’t want to believe them, but there are more and more reports circulating around Manchester United’s interest in Dan Ashworth.

It’s believed our sporting director has been identified as the top target to replace John Murtough as Manchester United’s football director once Sir Jim Ratcliffe secures his 25% stake in the club, with Mark Douglas (iNews) claiming that those behind the scenes fear he’ll leave for Old Trafford.

With that in mind, I had a look at a recent interview of his, where he discussed Eddie Howe’s links to the England job and rumours that Manchester United were keen to recruit himself.

Here’s what he had to say, insisting he’s “really happy” at the club, “thoroughly engaged,” and has a “no release clause” in his contract:

“The same situation as Eddie, I think. I’m really happy, it’s a brilliant city, club and project. I’m thoroughly engaged in throwing myself into all of those things and really enjoying the challenge.

“I’ve got NO release clause in my Newcastle contract.”

EzoicHopefully, the 52-year-old is not tempted by the project on offer at Manchester United. After all, he’s only just getting started on Tyneside and would leave a huge hole to fill if he left just 18 months after arriving from Brighton.
