Breaking: Capitals Coach Keeps Goalie Decision Under Wraps With Brief Statement
The Washington Capitals are set to kick off their 2025 first-round playoff series against the Montreal Canadiens later today, holding the advantage of playing at home. As anticipation builds for Game 1, head coach Spencer Carbery is staying tight-lipped about who will start in goal. When pressed for an answer, Carbery simply replied, “You’ll find out tonight.”
The choice comes down to Logan Thompson or Charlie Lindgren. Thompson was the first off the ice during the morning skate—typically a sign he may be starting—but Carbery offered no confirmation. It remains unclear whether the coach is still deciding or simply playing it strategically to avoid giving the Canadiens any early insight.
Thompson hasn’t played since April 2 but had an impressive season, going 31-6-6 with a .910 save percentage and 2.49 goals-against average in 43 games. Lindgren, while also solid, posted a 20-14-3 record with a .896 save percentage and 2.73 GAA across 39 appearances.
Regardless of who gets the nod, the Capitals are in a strong position with two capable options in net and are aiming to start their playoff run with a statement win at home.
