Approved: Atlanta Braves Officially Confirm Major Trade to Acquire Star Outfielder from Red Sox
The Atlanta Braves are in urgent need of an outfielder following Jurickson Profar’s 80-game suspension for a positive PED test, which will also rule him out of postseason play. While Ronald Acuña Jr. is expected to return soon,
the Braves still require another star outfielder to stay competitive. Jon Conahan of Athlon Sports recently speculated that the Braves might pull off a major trade with the Boston Red Sox to replace Profar with standout Red Sox outfielder Wilyer Abreu. “In the first eight games of the 2025 season, Abreu has been one of the top performers in MLB, posting a
.500/.621/.1.000 line with three home runs,” Conahan noted. “Although the Red Sox may not need many prospects in return, the Braves could potentially overwhelm them with an enticing offer, given their current outfield situation.” With Abreu’s hot start,
the likelihood of the Red Sox trading him is diminishing, but the Braves could still secure a deal if they make an irresistible offer. A package featuring top pitching prospect Hurston Waldrep, along with Bryce Elder and possibly a high-potential position player prospect, might be enough to convince the Red Sox to part with their 25-year-old outfielder.
