Duke Basketball: Jon Scheyer’s Opening Statement at the Final Four
Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer, now in his third year after winning a national championship as a player in 2010 and as an assistant in 2015, is preparing for his first Final Four. With a stellar 89-21 record, including 35-3 this season, Scheyer’s Blue Devils are primed for the challenge in San Antonio.
Ahead of Saturday’s game against No. 1 seed Houston (34-4) in the Alamodome, Scheyer addressed the media on Thursday and shared the following opening statement:
“I couldn’t be more excited to be here at the Final Four. It’s a special opportunity to play against Houston, and we know the challenge this game presents.
“When I first became head coach at Duke, I was figuring out the basics, but one of the first things I wanted to do was schedule a scrimmage with Houston. That’s how much respect I have for Coach [Kelvin] Sampson and his program. It’s an honor to be competing against them here.
“I’m incredibly proud of our team. We’re soaking it all in and feeling excited.
“I also want to acknowledge Coach Sampson and his team’s culture, which I admired from the moment I became head coach. We’re ready for this challenge.”
