It’s not hard to imagine an organization feeling buyer’s remorse when a major offseason acquisition gets suspended for PED use. This could be the case for the Buffalo Bills following the signing and suspension of defensive lineman Michael Hoecht. However, despite the potential for some regret, one of Hoecht’s former coaches has voiced support for him.
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay emphasized that, regardless of the suspension, the Bills have still added a valuable player. “You’re getting a versatile player who excels at rushing and covering,” McVay said.
“He really changed the dynamics of many things we did, especially in certain rush situations. He’s also been a great mentor to our younger players like Jared Verse and Byron Young. He plays the game the right way and will fit in well with a strong organization like the Bills.”
Hoecht recorded 13.5 sacks over four seasons with the Rams, including a victory in Super Bowl LVI. The former Browns player has always been seen as a versatile option, able to play both defensive tackle and on the edge due to his size. As the Bills aim to build on their championship game appearance from last year, players like Hoecht could be valuable additions, even if they have to wait until Week 6 to play. While Hoecht’s suspension slightly impacts the signing, at just 27 years old, he remains highly capable of becoming a key player for the Bills moving forward.
