Mackenzie Mgbako’s potential move to Kentucky would definitely be a significant addition for Mark Pope and the Wildcats. Given his high school pedigree as a McDonald’s All-American and his status as a five-star prospect, it’s easy to see why Kentucky is eager to add him to their roster. His size and skill set, especially as a 6-foot-9 forward, would certainly bolster their frontcourt depth, which seems to be a key area of focus for Pope as he builds a competitive team for the 2025-26 season.
Even though Mgbako’s college career has had its ups and downs, especially with his shooting percentages, the upside is still there. If Kentucky’s system can unlock his full potential, he could be a major contributor. The fact that Kentucky is actively pursuing forwards like Mgbako and Taylor Bol Bowen shows they’re prioritizing athleticism and size, which is critical in today’s college basketball landscape.
His visit to Kentucky will be telling, and it will be interesting to see if he chooses to join a Wildcats program that is looking to bounce back and regain its elite status in the NCAA. Do you think Mgbako would thrive more at Kentucky than he did at Indiana?
