Last season, the Buffalo Bills had one older edge rusher on the roster who struggled with serious injuries. The Bills managed to get 16 games (including playoffs) and six sacks despite Von Miller serving a four-game ban early in the season. To put it briefly, Buffalo has managed to keep players who are at risk for injuries healthy for the whole season.
The franchise may be well-positioned to provide rookie edge rusher Joey Bosa with the resources he needs to boost his career at the right time if they have that sort of understanding. Moving ahead, head coach Sean McDermott is at least approaching the situation with that mindset.
“We’ve had success before in taking guys, maybe, who had an injury history, perhaps, and have helped them,” McDermott said. “[Bosa’s] been in one place for give or take nine years, and sometimes [a change] can bode well for, kind of… re-stoking the competitive fire and the juices.”
Bosa has played in just 28 games over the last three seasons and hasn’t recorded over 10 sacks in a single season since 2021. While he did make a Pro Bowl last season, that was in large part due to being an alternate. It wasn’t based on his overall performance.
The former All-Pro may be able to get back on track if the Bills can give him the practice regimen and on-field time he needs to perform at his peak. and strengthen the defense that the Bills want to play.
