Update: Phillies All-Star Gives Shock update on back injury

Phillies All-Star Provides Startling Back Injury Update
With newcomer Jesus Luzardo positioned between reliable veteran Aaron Nola and staff ace Zack Wheeler, the Philadelphia Phillies have a potent starting rotation in 2025. The squad has great expectations for their fifth starting as well. However, Ranger Suarez’s availability for the season’s opening is in doubt due to a strained back.

Earlier this week, Suarez began to have back pain. However, things are getting better. “It’s preferable to Monday. He stated, “I’m feeling better now, but I had some pain there,” according to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com. Suarez is now optimistic that he will be able to start for the first time.

Wheeler was selected as the Opening Day starter by the Phillies for the second consecutive year. Suarez, who is provisionally set to take the mound on April 2 against the Colorado Rockies, Nola, Cristopher Sanchez, and Luzardo are planned to follow him.

Mar 4, 2025; Clearwater, Florida, USA; Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Ranger Suarez (55) throws a pitch against the New York Yankees in the fifth inning during spring training at BayCare Ballpark.

Wheeler will start on the second and Suarez will get the ball on the third if he needs more time to recover. There is a chance, though, that Suarez will start the season on the disabled list. Should the 15-day IL be applied retrospectively, he may be available to throw by April 8.
