Tyrese Proctor and the No. 1 seed Duke Blue Devils are off to a terrific start to the 2025 NCAA Tournament, defeating No. 16 seed Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers 93-49. The 44-point win also marked the largest tournament win under coach Jon Scheyer. Now, the Blue Devils will be heading to the second round, where they will face Jeremy Roach and the No. 9 seed Baylor Bears on Sunday afternoon. And there are a couple of big storylines to watch in this game. The first is the battle between freshman sensations Cooper Flagg and VJ Edgecombe,

both of whom are projected lottery picks in the upcoming 2025 NBA Draft, with Flagg the popular choice to go No. 1 overall. The second big storyline will be Roach playing against his former team. After playing four seasons in Durham, North Carolina, Roach elected to transfer to Baylor after the 2023-24 season for his final year of eligibility.

Roach and Proctor played together for just two seasons at Duke, winning the ACC Championship in their first year together. Their best NCAA Tournament run together came last year when they led the Blue Devils to the Elite Eight. Following Duke’s first-round win, Proctor had a message about playing his former teammate, sharing his excitement for the impending battle. “I can’t wait,” Proctor said. “Jerm’s my boy, he’s family and it’s going to be great. Great atmosphere and high-level game.”

Roach saw his numbers take a hit from his final season at Duke and first season at Baylor. He dropped from 14.0 points per game to 10.8, seeing a decrease in minutes, rebounds and assists as well. The winner of Duke and Baylor will move on to the Sweet 16, where it will face the winner of the second-round game between No. 4 seed Arizona Wildcats and No. 5 seed Oregon Ducks.
