Breaking News: Rangers Morns Another 38-Year-Old Top Veteran Died In Fire Outbreak

A 45-year-old former Rangers defenceman died in a European ski accident.

Tomas Kloucek, a former defender for the New York Rangers, passed away tragically on Sunday after a skiing accident, according to his widow.

The 45-year-old was the Blueshirts’ only fifth-round selection.

After his premature demise, no more information was disclosed.

“My husband, my universe, my love, the father of our children, and your friend Tomas Kloucek abandoned us forever yesterday after a terrible accident,” Barbara Klouckova stated. “Everyone who was in his vicinity need to be aware. Please be considerate of our privacy and the sadness we are now experiencing.

He was a wonderful child. Excellent disposition. Rangers great Mark Messier texted the New York post’s Larry Brooks, “Gentle soul.” “Dreadful news.”

Before Tuesday night’s game against the Calgary Flames began, the Rangers observed a minute of silence.

Tragic accident

In 1998, the Rangers selected the 6-foot-3, left-shooting Kloucek, who was born in Prague, at the age of 19.

During the 2000–01 season, Kloucek made his NHL debut with the Rangers. In 43 games, he averaged almost 16 minutes of ice time and recorded five points (one goal). But he sustained a ruptured ACL and MCL in his knee, which ended his season.

The next season, the blueliner played 52 games after recovering from the injury. However, the Rangers traded him to Nashville for goalkeeper Mike Dunham after he failed to establish himself in the starting lineup for the 2002–03 season.

Before ending his career in Europe, Kloucek spent his last three NHL seasons with the Atlanta Thrashers and the Predators.
