Breaking: The Minnesota Vikings have formally announced that they have signed a top veteran quarterback from their rivals.
The Minnesota Vikings have already done a lot of the tough lifting in free agency. They have made significant investments in the defensive trenches and redesigned the attacking line. They also gained depth at linebacker and in the secondary, and they brought back their finest defensive backs. Not to mention that they made a deal for another incredibly gifted running back.
To put it another way, this Minnesota Vikings club is quite different from the one that lost to the Los Angeles Rams in the 2024 NFL Playoffs Wild Card round. But there is still one obvious missing in the quarterback’s chamber. Following Sam Darnold’s (sort of) victory in Seattle, Kevin O’Connell and his team of quarterback whisperers shifted their attention back to Daniel Jones.
However, the former No. 6 overall selection pick wasn’t happy with his quarterback battle prospects against JJ McCarthy this summer after a few months in the Vikings organization, so he

To the Minnesota Vikings, Joe Flacco?
One thing is certain to us. Next season in Minnesota, Brett Rypien will not be the starting quarterback. Reports about which veteran quarterbacks the Vikings esteem most among the remaining players have been few, aside from the Rodgers speculations.
Then, in his Monday Morning Quarterback piece, reputable NFL source Albert Breer (Sports Illustrated) revealed that the Minnesota Vikings had been in touch with Joe Flacco, the other 40-year-old Super Bowl winner still available.
The MVP of Super Bowl XLVII appeared to be forced into retirement after three years with the New York Jets, during which Joe Flacco served as a backup mentor for (yet another) Jets first-round flop. Then, former Vikings offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski got Flacco off the sofa after Deshaun Watson went down in Cleveland.
In response, the 17-year NFL veteran guided the Browns to 11 victories and a postseason trip. After finishing the season with 1600 throwing yards, 13 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in five games, Joe Flacco’s unexpected emergency performance that season won him the title of 2023 Comeback Player of the Year.
bailed in favor of a simpler chance to start against Anthony Richardson in Indianapolis.
