Khalil Shakir, a receiver with the Buffalo Bills, was the only player on the team to catch a ball from Josh Allen during live NFL action going into the 2024 season. Shakir was expected to step up as the organization moved on from Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis, and he did a fantastic job. Shakir was Allen’s top man, leading the Bills in yards (821), catches (76), and targets (100) and ending second in touchdowns (four). Shakir’s season was so successful that the team gave him a four-year, $60.2 million extension this summer.
After Khalil signed his new contract, he made sure to thank Allen, the only player on the team who was instrumental in his success. After “it [the contract] was put out there,” Shakir said, “He called me not too long after it.
” “He was really excited, and I’m really grateful for him. I made sure to let him know that without him, I wouldn’t be where I am now, and that he trusted me and our communication alone.
” He has been the source of my achievement thus far. I’m thankful that he can trust me and that we can play together because I genuinely think he’s the finest athlete I’ve ever seen.” The Bills will be hoping that Allen and Shakir’s relationship,
which was evident in the previous season, will continue in 2025 as the team attempts to overcome the postseason glass ceiling. Allen needs another reliable weapon that isn’t Shakir, whether it comes through the draft or free agency. Khalil’s future has already been decided. In order to improve his performance in 2025, he may now focus on the offseason and be prepared for the start of training camp.
