In order to guarantee that the top teams compete for a national title, the College Football Playoff (CFP) selection process is designed to be objective and equitable. Athletic Directors’ Impact
Former Ole Miss All-America tight end Wesley Walls, former ESPN college football reporter Ivan Maisel, Middle Tennessee State AD Chris Massaro, and former Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio will all become new members of the CFP, the organization said Tuesday. Former USA Today reporter Steve Wieberg, who served on the previous CFP committee from 2014 to 2017, will also rejoin for a one-year term. Pinkel, the former head coach of Missouri, resigned because of other obligations.

There has long been controversy around the inclusion of athletic directors on the committee. Even though these people have a wealth of football knowledge and expertise, there are always going to be disagreements because they are active ADs. The rankings that these administrators assist in determining may have a direct impact on the sporting programs they manage. Personal connections, conference ties, or indirect advantages can nevertheless have an impact on the voting process as a whole, even if an AD is excused from conversations about their own institution.
