JUST IN: Following contentious problems with the management, Patrick Maroon has re-signed with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Like it or not, the ardent supporters did not think highly of now-former Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Seth Jones. He had some influence over it, and part of it was not his fault.
However, the Chicago fan base made Jones an even greater target once he made his want to be moved from the Blackhawks public just two weeks ago.
We’re now learning more about how the move transpired and how it affected the Blackhawks locker room after his requested trade was approved and Jones was sent to the Florida Panthers for goalkeeper Spencer Knight and a 2026 (or 2027) first-round selection.
To put it briefly, it does Jones no favors in relation to the…
One seasoned Blackhawks defenceman who wishes to remain in Chicago is Connor Murphy. Murphy has accepted his role as an experienced leader, whereas Seth Jones pouted his way out of town.
However, Murphy could be leaving since the Athletic (which requires a subscription to see linked material) ranks him as the 17th best player possibly available on the trade market.
Murphy just dealt a serious blow to a possible future teammate if he stays until Friday’s trade deadline.
During Thursday night’s Blackhawks win, Murphy utterly destroyed Los Angeles Kings center Quinton Byfield with a classic highlight open-ice check.
Byfield has been linked to Chicago in a possible deal involving the Kings’ quest to improve their top six, making him a possible Blackhawk.
Ryan Donato is having a career season, and the Kings are reportedly interested in signing him. The LA Times reports that the Kings are prepared to part with their promising center if Byfield is the price.
He is now in the first year of a $31.25 million, five-year contract with a $6.25 salary cap hit.
In order to acquire Byfield, the Hawks could need to pay Donato and some draft picks, but since he is signed until 2029 and fills a significant need both now and in the future, the Blackhawks should easily make the transaction.
Given that the veteran essentially performed the NBA equivalent of posterizing the rookie player, you wonder how Murphy and Byfield’s first locker room encounter will go if he is acquired. Thanks to a huge check, it was NHL style.
