Zegras Suspended, Hartman’s Suspension Reduced
The NHL DoPS banned Trevor Zegras for three games for interfering against Detroit’s Michael Rasmussen. Todd McLellan, the head coach of the Red Wings, was furious that no penalty was given and that all officials failed to make the call. Zegras was suspended for the first time.
After the NHL Players’ Association (NHLPA) appealed, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman lowered Ryan Hartman’s penalty from ten to eight games. Given Hartman’s history of NHL suspensions, the decision was unexpected. The ten games were deemed excessive by Bettman.
