OFFICIAL : Duke Blue Devils Part Ways With Coach Jon Scheyer After Serious Health Issue And Confirm Replace With Championship Winning Coach

The No. 3 Blue Devils lost a crucial player to injury Monday night as Duke took a significant lead and won another ACC basketball game with ease. Late in the first half of Duke’s 80-62 victory over Virginia, 6-9 junior forward Maliq Brown hurt his left shoulder and was transported to the John Paul Jones Arena locker room. According to Duke coach Jon Scheyer, he is out due to a dislocated left shoulder and did not return to play during the second half. “Hopefully, we’re going to get him imaging tonight to see what the problem is, and then we’ll take it from there,” Scheyer stated. “I don’t know anything more.” With 1:21 remaining in the first half, Brown was injured, cutting Duke’s advantage to 15 points. Brown used his left arm to knock the ball away from Virginia’s Ishan Sharma while playing defense. With a quick wince, Brown gripped his upper left arm by the triceps. After play was halted, he went to the bench and was led to the locker room by Duke’s medical personnel.
Brown’s left arm was in a sling as he returned to the Duke bench in the second half. Following the game, Brown and Duke basketball physical trainer Jose Fonseca left the locker room to undergo shoulder testing.

Brown has missed three games for the Blue Devils this season due to injuries. Due to a toe injury, he missed one game in December. He subsequently missed four games and all but one minute of a fifth game because of a sprained knee he sustained during Duke’s 86-78 victory against Notre Dame on January 11. Brown participated in his 21st game for Duke this season on Monday night. In every game he has been fit, he has played as the starting reserve.
