ESPN News To replace the $160 million quarterback on their historic NFL team, the New York Giants formally announced the signing of another elite quarterback.
There was no assurance that Utah native quarterback Jaxson Dart would start for the Rebels straight away when Lane Kiffin recruited him via the transfer portal prior to the 2022 campaign. After three seasons, Dart broke all previous records as an Ole Miss player and is now among the team’s most sought-after draft prospects.
Dart had shot to the top of the draft board following an outstanding performance at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, but as the NFL Combine draws near, his value has subsequently begun to decline. In a recent mock draft published by Ian Valentino of 33rd Team,
Dart is chosen by the New York Giants in the second round and may replace Daniel Jones. Following an unexpected postseason trip in 2022, the Giants have struggled in subsequent years. Jones was given a $160 million contract extension after helping New York to the postseason,
but he has subsequently fallen short of playing at a level that justifies such a payout. Consequently, the team severed its relationship with Jones following the 2024 season, leaving them with only two career backup quarterbacks. Given that Dart is a guy who many believe has a lot of promise, New York should be prepared to make another investment on a young quarterback. The Giants could pair the rookie signal-caller with an experienced player and give him time to develop, even though Dart might not be the solution immediately. This might be the wisest course of action for Dart’s and the New York Giants’ futures.
