Breaking: The Bucks superstar’s All-standout replacement is the Hawks’ standout point guard
ESPN’s Shams Charania revealed Monday morning that Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young will indeed be on the All-Star roster. Young will be the Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo’s substitute in the All-Star Game.
Giannis Antetokounmpo gets replaced by Hawks player Trae Young in the All-Star Game.
This comes after Charania said on Sunday that Antetokounmpo will be out until at least the All-Star break due to a strained calf. The Bucks great forward, who averages 31.8 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game, was selected as an Eastern Conference starter and is having an MVP-caliber season.
Following the release of the first All-Star rosters, Young was a well-known name among prospective snubs. Darius Garland, Damian Lillard, Cade Cunningham, and Tyler Herro are the backup guards, while Jalen Brunson of the New York Knicks and Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers were selected as starters.
Although all of those players deserve a lot of credit, it’s possible that Young was overlooked despite his current season. He leads the NBA in assists per game (11.4), and he is averaging 23.5 points per game this season. But he only shoots 40.9% from the field and 34% from three, which is below average, and he leads the NBA in turnovers (4.7 per game).
Due to an adductor injury, the Mavericks’ recently acquired superstar will be out for many weeks.
Three-time Clippers sign Following the Nets buyout, All-Star forward Pat Riley made a last-ditch effort to persuade Jimmy Butler to stay.
The voters may have overlooked him because of those considerations. The Hawks’ poor performance this season is probably also contributing. With a 25-28 record and eight losses in their previous 11 games, they are now ranked ninth in the Eastern Conference.
However, Young receives his fourth career All-Star selection as a reward for his outstanding scoring season. Before the All-Star Game on Sunday, February 16, the Hawks have two more games to play. On Monday, Atlanta will play the Orlando Magic.
Voters overlooked Young in the All-Star selection process.
