Breaking News: New York Mets Sign Reliever Ryne Stanek To A One-Year Deal With A 2 Words Message From The President

Ryne Stanek, a right-handed reliever, was signed by the New York Mets on Thursday to a one-year deal, strengthening their bullpen.

Last year, Stanek was dealt from Seattle to the Mets for Rhylan Thomas, a minor league outfielder. He became a dependable reliever in the postseason after posting a 6.06 ERA in 17 regular season outings.

The 33-year-old pitched eight innings in seven postseason games, striking out eight hitters but giving up three runs.

In a press statement, Mets head of baseball operations David Stearns stated, “We are thrilled to have Ryan back after he proved to be a valuable late-inning option for us last season.” “His experience and other contributions will be a great fit for the rest of our pen.”

Stanek will be part of a bullpen that also features left-handed setup man A.J. Minter and closer Edwin Diaz.

Dylan Covey, a right-hander, was sent to free up room on New York’s 40-man roster. The 33-year-old Covey hasn’t played in a major league game since 2023.

Tampa Bay selected Stanek in the first round of the 2013 draft. He has pitched for the Rays, Miami, and Houston during his career, going 17–17 with a 3.65 ERA and 11 saves in 401 major league games.
