Three prospects from the St. Louis Cardinals are included among MLB Pipeline’s top 100.
There are several St. Louis Cardinals on another ranking of the top 100.

These players on MLB Pipeline’s top 100 list for the 2025 season will probably be a major factor in the St. Louis Cardinals’ return to winning baseball in the upcoming seasons.

Three Cardinals prospects were included in MLB Pipeline’s esteemed 2025 prospect list, which was unveiled today. The top prospect on their list was SS JJ Wetherholt, who came in at number 23, followed by LHP Quinn Mathews (#45) and RHP Tink.

Thus, he was followed in the top 100 by (#77).

According to MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 ranking, Tink, Quinn Mathews, and JJ Wetherholt therefore symbolize the future of Cardinals baseball.
Although having one of the best position player prospects in the league is nothing new for the Cardinals (see Jordan Walker, Dylan Carlson, and Nolan Gorman), it is uncommon for them to have a player like Wetherholt join their system with the kind of reputation he has after being picked. Wetherholt is already regarded as one of the game’s best players, but Walker, Carlson, and Gorman had to demonstrate certain things in the lower leagues before scouts saw them that way on the national stage.

After being chosen, Wetherholt only played in 29 games for Palm Beach, but in 126 plate appearances, he smashed the ball consistently and slashed.295/.405/.400 with a 137 wRC+, displaying a 12.7 BB% and an 11.9 K%. Wetherholt was given a non-team invitation to Spring Training this year, and d will probably start the regular season at Double-A with a possibility to join the major league roster as early as 2026.

MLB: What Happens If a Trade for Nolan Arenado Falls Through?

Many of you are already aware that Mathews had one of the greatest minor league pitching seasons in recent memory, and every major scouting organization awarded him the Minor League Pitcher of the Year. It is obvious that the velocity he added to hit pitches will make him a problem at the next level. In the previous 13 years, only Mathews and Brandon Pfaadt have struck out more than 200 hitters in a single year in the minor leagues.

As a result, the Cardinals’ top pitching prospect in the previous several years before to Mathews’ ascent had a fantastic 2024 season, making 20 starts at Double-A Springfield with a 2.71 ERA and 12.31 K/9. He so had to contend with ailments once more this season and failed to reach the 100-inning mark, but he did continue to demonstrate his exceptional skill and his ability to get hitters out even when he isn’t feeling his best.
