Breaking News: Swindon Town has officially announced the completion of another Burney highest-paid player deal. Westley, a striker for Burnley, has been loaned to Swindon Town.
Joe Westley, a forward for Burnley, has joined Swindon Town on loan until the conclusion of the current campaign.
The 20-year-old scored three goals in a 13-game loan at fellow National League team AFC Fylde last season and spent a month on loan at Rochdale in October.
Westley has not yet made an appearance for Burnley’s first team despite rising through the Clarets’ system.
According to Swindon manager Ian Holloway, “Joe is an exciting player that is going to add to our forward utility,” the club’s external website stated.
Jadan Raymond, a young player from Crystal Palace, is apparently being pursued by Ian Holloway’s Swindon Town.
Even though the Wales U21 international hasn’t played for the Eagles as a senior yet, Holloway will want to expand his offensive options as he works to keep the League Two team from going down.
According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, the 61-year-old has moved the Robins from 22nd to 19th in the standings since taking over at the County Ground in October. He is currently looking for the 21-year-old winger.
For Swindon, what would Raymond bring?
Raymond would provide the Robins a new offensive impact on the flank, something they do not currently have, even if he has not played senior football.
Instead of employing widemen, they have been playing a variety of three-at-the-back systems with two or even three attackers. Paul Glatzel, Kabongo Tshimanga, Aaron Drinan, and Harry Smith have all been featured recently.
Raymond has played most frequently on the left or right flank for Palace’s U21s in recent seasons, so Holloway may change his lineup to accommodate him there.
He made 22 appearances in all competitions during the 2023–24 season, tallying three goals and four assists until an injury ended his season in March.
In addition, he played in two of the U21s’ EFL Trophy matches against League One teams Wycombe Wanderers and Stevenage, and he was benched twice for Palace’s senior squad in the Premier League.
The child could provide the Wiltshire team with the spark of creativity they need.
Other clubs’ interest
Although Raymond’s presence to the League Two squad has not been confirmed, it seems that Holloway has done his magic and defeated competition from Scottish Premiership team Dundee and another fourth tier team Colchester United.
The winger has previously been connected to both teams throughout the transfer window, but nothing came of those rumors.
Since then, Colchester seems to have moved on from Raymond as they have brought in attacker Tyreece Simpson on loan from Stevenage.
How will the child’s development benefit from the move?
Palace has a high opinion of Raymond and aims to include him in their first team going forward. A transfer to the Robins would help his career because he now requires consistent playing time in senior football.
Palace’s choice to send the young player out on loan will be heavily influenced by Holloway’s coaching, who has overseen more than 1,000 professional games.
During his first stint in senior football, he will be able to use his knowledge to help the young player grow and return to the Premier League team as a better player.
Raymond appears to be behind fellow young prospect Justin Devenny in manager Oliver Glasner’s plans, based on his lack of appearances for the Palace first team this season.
With 12 games this season, the 21-year-old Northern Ireland international has scored one goal for the Eagles.
Raymond was also pushed down in the hierarchy by the recent signing of winger Romain Esse.
The 19-year-old is expected to start for the top tier team right away after joining from Millwall, another south London club, last week for an estimated £14.5 million.
Raymond’s chances of playing in Palace’s first squad the next season could improve if he performs well for Swindon in League Two. He might even be able to secure a temporary transfer to the Championship or League One.”What I enjoy about him is his skill set. Joe will be able to fit right in with our amazing squad, and he will push all of our forward players to their very best.”
