MORE SAD NEWS: Pittsburgh Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin Officially Announced The Term Will Be With Out 2 Keys Players Due To

ussell Wilson made it quite apparent that he would want to re-sign as the starting quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025. The only problem is that it seems more and more likely that the Steelers have learned from Justin Fields.

While dissecting the roster on January 18, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette insider Gerry Dulac appeared to reveal that the Steelers are anticipated to let go of Wilson.

“It is very unlikely that Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, who are both free agents, will be re-signed,” Dulac started.

Going on: “In March, Wilson and the Steelers reached an agreement to sign a one-year, veteran minimum contract, with the intention of signing a lengthier contract following the season. However, that agreement might not come to pass given how the season concluded with five straight defeats and a rift with offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.

Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson.

Wilson was brought in to help break the streak of postseason victories, but it didn’t work out, Dulac said. “Bringing in another veteran quarterback does not make sense,” he continued.

“For that reason, Fields will probably be hired,” the seasoned reporter said. “At just 25, he made significant progress during his time in Chicago.”

What Happens to Russell Wilson Should the Steelers Lose in Free Agency?
Wilson said in public that, if his body permits, he would still like to play for a few more seasons. He just turned 36 in November, so if there are suitors out there who want his services, it would take him another four years to reach 40.

Wilson should find employment someplace, even though the Steelers could pass on him in 2025.
