Amari Jones, a transfer quarterback, has been chosen by South Carolina State University, an HBCU football powerhouse, to lead them into a new era. The Bulldogs are rebuilding their squad in an attempt to reclaim their position as the best HBCU football team after placing second in the 2024 Celebration Bowl.
It is anticipated that Jones, a 6’3″, 225-pound redshirt junior, would fill the leadership void created by the departure of exceptional quarterback Eric Phoenix. After transferring from FIU, where he missed two seasons of activity, Jones now plays for South Carolina State. Although he hasn’t had much experience in college,
his high school years at Bradford High School in Starke, Florida, showed promise. Jones ran for 371 yards and seven touchdowns as a senior and passed for 2,287 yards and 19 touchdowns. In addition to winning Florida 1A Player of the Year for his outstanding season, he set school records for throwing yards in a single season and a single game. Jones now has the chance to establish himself at South Carolina State,
one of the most prestigious HBCU football teams. The Bulldogs, who are well-known for their aggressive style of play and formidable defense,
have always prospered on well-rounded, orderly football. There are high expectations for Jones when he enters the MEAC and takes charge of this championship-caliber program. He is a great prospect to take the position and support the club in competing at the top level because of his size,
athleticism, and dual-threat skills. Under the direction of head coach Chinnis Berry, the Bulldogs are still committed to winning a title and making it back to the Celebration Bowl. Jones has the opportunity to solidify his legacy at South Carolina State University as he takes on this assignment. The HBCU football community’s supporters will be intently observing Jones’ ability to step up and guide the Bulldogs back to victory.
