Other than reaching an agreement with pitcher Nick Martinez, the Cincinnati Reds haven’t done much in free agency. Shortly after the 2024 season concluded, Martinez accepted the $21.05 million qualifying offer, making the right-hander the Reds’ first (and only) free agency acquisition this offseason.
However, a number of former Reds players are still up for grabs as free agents. Some, like Adam Duvall, haven’t worn a Reds uniform in years, while others, like Buck Farmer, only played for Cincinnati last season.
It may surprise you to learn that 26 former Reds players are presently free agents. That number does not even include former prospects like Justin Turner and Yasmani Grandal, who did not wear Reds uniforms while they were with the team.

As the offseason progresses, don’t be surprised if one or more of these guys end up on the Reds’ radar. This year’s Reds club may benefit from the seasoned presence of infielders like Donovan Solano and Jose Iglesias. If he doesn’t sign with the New York Mets, another player to keep an eye on is Jesse Winker.

Shortly after the 2024 season, Ty France, Nick Martini, and Amed Rosario were fired by the Reds. Reuniting with Harrison Bader’s glove this summer would be alluring, but he stated that he was looking for a very big salary. After two different stints with the old Redlegs, Curt Casali and Tommy Pham are still seeking employment.
Prior to the 2025 season, former Reds starting pitchers Michael Lorenzen and others are still unemployed.

As we turn our focus from the position players to the pitchers, we see a few well-known names scattered around the page. This offseason, Michael Lorenzen, a former starter who was previously a reliever before returning to the starting lineup, is positioning himself as a two-way player.
As he did throughout his time with the Reds, Anthony DeSclafani has had difficulty staying healthy. Wade Miley, who hopes to rejoin the Milwaukee Brewers in 2025, is similarly in this category. Despite his short stay with the Reds, Chase Anderson played in more games than Alex Wood, a former left-handed starter.

Hunter Strickland had a great season with the Los Angeles Angels on the West Coast in 2024 after the Reds bid him farewell in 2023. Ian Gibaut was non-tendered earlier this summer, while Lucas Sims was moved at the deadline last year. Jeff Hoffman, a free agent reliever, is thinking about making a comeback to the starting lineup in 2025.

The Reds’ fan base would undoubtedly be thrilled to see Jakob Junis return in 2025, and don’t be shocked if Buck Farmer rejoins the team the following season. Since departing Cincinnati in 2018, Dylan Floro has been all over the league, and Brooks Raley played in just eight games for the Mets the previous season.
