Carlos Corberan isn’t persuaded, but West Brom should be prepared for their January departure.
With Carlos Corberan still not persuaded, January might be a chance to profit from a failing striker who was a summer addition to West Bromwich Albion.
With top scorer Brandon Thomas Asante only scoring 11 goals previous season, Albion was the lowest-scoring team in the top six, therefore conversion rate was a special problem for Corberan’s team going into the season.
However, many Baggies supporters were thrilled about the possibility of having such a successful goal scorer back Josh Maja for this season when 29-year-old Devante Cole joined West Brom in July. The former Tykes player scored 18 goals in the 2022–2023 season, which placed him third in the Golden Boot race and helped Barnsley earn a spot in the playoffs.
Cole would presumably be essential to achieving Albion’s same hope for play-off contention, given Josh Maja has been unable to play 90 minutes on a regular basis since recuperating from his damaged ankle ligament last season, which kept the striker out since January.
Cole only made one cameo appearance in the blue and white stripes from the start of the season until November, missing six teams during that time, even though Corberan’s squad had no other recognized strikers.
In response to the struggling striker’s revelation, Corberan himself expressed his own “regret” and shame, giving the forward some optimism that his fortunes would turn in his favor.

Cole’s admission made sense, but the Baggies stopped bouncing as Albion and Maja emerged as the early pace-setters in the second division.
As West Brom’s winter problems persist, Corberan’s “regret” has indicated that Cole’s future would remain unchanged.
After a brilliant start, Corberan’s team has faltered and is currently in seventh place with only two victories in their last 15 games.
The lack of firepower West Brom has experienced this run—with Maja scoreless in five games—is further than worrisome for Cole, but Corberan hasn’t even glanced in the direction of the former Tykes player.
In West Brom’s penultimate game against Coventry, in the 45th minute, and in Baggie’s last game against Watford, in which they were also behind and lost, Corberan also pulled Maja. Despite this, the Spaniard still failed to see the benefit of starting Cole even when they most needed a goal.
With the striker’s pass accuracy ranking in the worst 25% of League One forwards last season, it appears that his lack of skill in the build-up that has become so crucial to Corberan’s style of play is holding the speedy forward back.can strengthen the team.
