It seems clear that Nate Davis may have played his last game in a Chicago Bears uniform.
Davis is in the second year of a three-year contract he signed with the Bears, but after being a healthy scratch against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, it appears he has fallen out of the team’s offensive line rotation.
Recent rumors indicate that the Bears are actively shopping Davis ahead of the NFL Trade Deadline, which is just a week away. When asked about a possible trade, Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic (Subscription Required) provided insight into what the Bears might expect in return.
Davis has a guaranteed base salary for 2024, and the Bears have already invested a significant amount in him. They might be willing to take on additional costs if it means acquiring a draft pick in return. At this point, it’s largely a sunk cost for them, and a sixth-round pick would likely be sufficient to move him, although a conditional seventh-rounder might also be possible.Fishbain did not rule out the possibility of the Bears cutting Davis. If the Bears plan to trade him, it would be beneficial for him to be active in Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders. Otherwise, other teams might just wait for the Bears to release the underperforming lineman.
Nate Davis’s time with the Chicago Bears seems to be limited. Regardless of how it unfolds, it appears likely that the Bears will part ways with him in the coming weeks.
As for who will take over at right guard, Matt Pryor is expected to be the starter moving forward, with Ryan Bates also in the mix once he returns from injury.
