**NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS**
– Team Orange triumphed 6-0 after six innings.
– The scrimmage showcased the performances of Liam Peterson and Jake Clemente, both contenders for a weekend rotation spot. Peterson had a solid first inning but faced challenges in the second, giving up one run while striking out two. He struggled to start ahead in counts but improved as the innings progressed.
– Jake Clemente excelled, throwing three scoreless innings with only one hit and one walk allowed. His fastball reached 95-96 MPH, complemented by an effective slider at 84-86 MPH. Clemente’s strong summer in the Cape Cod League as an All-Star enhances his candidacy for a rotation spot.
– Team Orange scored five runs in the fourth inning against freshman LHP McCall Biemiller, who struggled with control, issuing five walks and failing to record an out in that inning.
– INF Colby Shelton impressed with two extra-base hits, including a two-run homer and a hustle double, marking his second consecutive scrimmage with a home run.
– OF Ashton Wilson made significant contributions, hitting a double off a 94 MPH pitch, making a diving catch in right field, and stealing a base to score.
– Stetson transfer Kyle Jones made his live at-bats debut, hitting a two-RBI double and showcasing impressive base-running skills.
– Miami transfer Blake Cyr made a highlight catch in center field and was the only player on Team Blue to record a hit, a line drive single.
– SO RHP Luke McNeillie was dominant, allowing only one walk in his three innings, consistently getting ahead in counts with his breaking ball.
– The standout pitcher for Team Blue was freshman LHP Niko Janssens, who delivered two perfect innings in relief, striking out one and keeping hitters off-balance with a unique delivery and good velocity.
