JUST IN: Cowboys First Quarter Awards: MVP, LVP, Rookie of the Year

The Dallas Cowboys are working to address their many shortcomings and establish themselves as championship contenders, despite being a 2-2 team. Head coach Mike McCarthy has led them to a couple of victories, but neither was particularly convincing.

With the NFC East rapidly becoming one of the most competitive divisions in the league, the Cowboys understand they can’t afford many mistakes. Given the tough matchups ahead, they need to elevate their performance.

While some players have excelled despite the team’s rocky start and deserve recognition, others—both young players and veterans—need to step up.Dallas Cowboys v New York Giants**Cowboys First Quarter Awards: MVP and LVP**

**MVP: Dak Prescott**
Despite having only one reliable wide receiver, a declining offensive line, and no effective running game, Prescott has managed to remain one of the NFL’s most efficient quarterbacks. While the Cowboys may not clinch the Super Bowl this year, Dak’s talent gives them a fighting chance.

**LVP: Mazi Smith**
This season was crucial for Smith to prove himself as a starting defensive lineman, but the overall defense has struggled. His inconsistent performance has significantly contributed to this decline, and Mike Zimmer’s scheme hasn’t suited him well. Although he had a strong game against the Giants in Week 4, consistency has eluded the 2023 first-round pick.

**MIP: Jalen Tolbert**
While CeeDee Lamb is the clear primary target and Jake Ferguson is next in line, Tolbert is emerging as the No. 2 wide receiver. With Brandin Cooks declining and now sidelined due to a knee infection, Tolbert has stepped up, ranking second in yards and third in receptions for the team. The South Alabama product is beginning to find his rhythm.

**ROY: Cooper Beebe**
Although the Cowboys selected two offensive linemen in the first three rounds, first-round pick Tyler Guyton has struggled while transitioning from right to left tackle. In contrast, Beebe has emerged as a solid replacement for Tyler Biadasz, excelling in run-blocking and holding his own in pass protection.

**Best Newcomer: DeMarvion Overshown**
Drafted in 2023, Overshown qualifies for this award after missing his entire rookie season due to a torn ACL. Now thrust into a significant role, he ranks second on the team in tackles and has showcased impressive speed and playmaking skills, positioning him as a key player for Dallas’ defense in the future. He’s quickly become one of the most exciting young talents in the NFL.
